Speech-language therapy.

Learn strategies to confidently support your child’s development!

We specialize in autism, childhood apraxia, AAC, gestalt language processing / natural language acquisition, and early intervention.

Early intervention.

Early intervention refers to therapy provided before a child’s third birthday. Many times, parents will tell me that they knew there was a problem long before they finally took the plunge to contact a speech-language therapist. If you are concerned about your child’s communication development, don’t wait and see.

Speech-language therapy for very young children should always include parent coaching. Research suggests that children whose parents receive coaching during speech-language therapy make faster progress than children whose parents don’t received coaching.

Speech production.

Speech production refers to the sounds we make when we talk. It’s normal for children to make mistakes with sounds as they speak. However, if your child is very difficult to understand, makes many errors when they talk, or continues to make mistakes after five years old, they may have a speech sound disorder. Speech therapy for speech sound disorders can help your child speak more clearly. North Star’s speech pathologists have experience treating a variety of speech sound disorders including articulation, phonology, and apraxia.

Autism.

Whether you have concerns about signs of autism, your child has been newly diagnosed with autism, or your child was diagnosed years ago, we are here to support you on your journey. North Star’s speech-language pathologists have more than 20 years combined experience working with children diagnosed as autistic. We utilize Marge Blanc’s natural language acquisition framework to support children who are gestalt language processors and who learn through echolalia and scripts.

North Star can support your child’s play development and communication skills. We specialize in supporting autistic children who are nonverbal or minimally verbal.

“Katherine hasn't only enhanced and changed our son's life, she has done so for both my husband and I. We finally have a clear path of where we're going and the light is shining so bright for our son's future. We will do anything to ensure our son has a normal life and to know Katherine shares that mission is everything to us. Thank you will never be enough to truly express our gratitude, but we will be sure to say it after each session until it does.”
